Tips for curing dry, chapped lips

I suffer from chapped lips all year long, but the problem seems to get worse in the winter. I did some checking for tips on how to keep my lips soft and smooth. Here’s what I found:

Ayurvediccure.com says, “Keep the body hydrated by drinking lots of water. People who do not drink sufficient water are more prone to get dry lips and dry skin. Water or fluids keep the body moist which keeps the skin soft and supple. Apply lip balm or petroleum jelly on the lips to keep them smooth.” You shouldn’t lick your lips if they are dry. “Wetting [your] lips with [your] tongue makes the lips dark, and [they] lose moister. Stop wetting [your] lips with [your] tongue; apply moisturizer [instead]. Excessive use of lipsticks on the lips [also] makes them dark and dry. At times let them breathe without putting anything on them. Before applying lip color apply some lip balm or moisturizer on your lips to keep them moist. Always go in the sun wearing sunscreen on your lips. Otherwise lips get dry, dark and patchy.”

Ultimate-Cosmetics.comsays, “chuck your Chapstick. Conventional lip balms contain petroleum and sometimes alcohol, both of which dry the sensitive skin on your lips. Instead, moisturize and protect your parched, peeling lips with castor oil. Carry a small squeeze bottle of the oil and apply it with your finger often throughout the day. If you plan to be out in the sun, use a natural petroleum- and alcohol-free balm with an SPF of 15 a few minutes after rubbing in the castor oil.”
